The Swordswoman

The Swordswoman series follows Melcorka of Alba and the traveller Bradan through a mythic early-medieval world. Beginning with Norse attacks on Scotland, their journeys reach the Western Isles, the North Atlantic, North America and distant legendary lands, where historical cultures coexist with magical weapons, supernatural beings and material drawn from Scottish and Norse tradition.

Melcorka’s sword Defender gives her exceptional power but also imposes moral constraints, turning each campaign into a test of judgement as well as strength. The novels blend historical fantasy, voyage narrative and heroic epic while making Alba’s survival, cultural memory and the consequences of violence central to the continuing story.
