Elizabeth's marriage to Henry VII ends one phase of dynastic war without erasing the loyalties that produced it. As queen she must reconcile Yorkist memory with the needs of a husband whose claim partly depends on conquest. The novel treats her motherhood, court role and relationship with surviving relatives as political acts that help convert a contested victory at Bosworth into a functioning Tudor dynasty.
