Set in Mesopotamia in 53 BCE, during Crassus's invasion of Parthia and the Battle of Carrhae.

In 53 BCE Marcus Licinius Crassus invaded Parthian territory seeking military glory and wealth. Near Carrhae his legions were outmanoeuvred by Surena's horse archers and armoured cavalry, producing one of Rome's most notorious defeats. Crassus was killed and legionary standards were captured, creating a humiliation that would shape Roman-Parthian diplomacy and warfare for decades.

The clash also exposes the radically different military systems of the two empires. Roman legions depended on disciplined heavy infantry and close formation, while Parthian commanders exploited mobility, horse archery and armoured cavalry.
