Book
A Regimental Affair
Canada, 1817. The 6th Light Dragoons return to peacetime routine under a wealthy commanding officer whose vanity and cruelty threaten the regiment’s cohesion. Hervey must defend the standards of his profession without sacrificing promotion, while the loyalty of officers and men is tested by patronage, punishment and personal rivalry.
Deployment to British North America carries the quarrel into the unsettled aftermath of the War of 1812. Along the frontier, rumours of violence and unresolved hostility create military danger, but Hervey’s most immediate opponent remains within his own chain of command. The conflict forces him to decide how far obedience extends when leadership becomes abusive.
