A Matter of Honour

In May 1966, former army officer Adam Scott receives a letter left by his disgraced father and an apparently unremarkable object connected to the last Russian tsar. The inheritance places him at the centre of a Cold War operation involving a lost imperial icon, a secret agreement and evidence capable of changing the balance of power. Soviet agents move quickly to recover it, while British and American intelligence services struggle to understand what Adam possesses.

Pursued across Europe, Adam must reconstruct his father’s wartime actions and determine whether the official account of the man’s dishonour was deliberately manufactured. The novel combines a 1960s KGB–CIA contest with unresolved legacies of Nazi Germany and the Russian Revolution. Espionage, family reputation and the political value assigned to a cultural object turn a private bequest into an international pursuit.
