Pauline Gedge

Pauline Gedge is a Canadian author best known for historical novels set in the ancient world, particularly Egypt. Born in New Zealand and raised in Canada, she developed a strong interest in ancient cultures, political power and the lives of women whose experiences were often marginalised in traditional histories. Her fiction combines detailed research with dramatic narratives of royal courts, religious conflict and dynastic rivalry.

Her best-known novels include Child of the Morning, which recreates the life of the female pharaoh Hatshepsut, The Twelfth Transforming, The Eagle and the Raven and the Lords of the Two Lands trilogy. Gedge has also written the King’s Man trilogy and several novels exploring the reigns of Egypt’s pharaohs. Her work is noted for its atmospheric settings, psychologically complex characters and vivid portrayal of ancient political and spiritual life.
