Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt

c. 1550–1292 BCE

The Eighteenth Dynasty began after Ahmose I defeated Hyksos power and reunited Egypt. It became one of Egypt’s most powerful royal lines, later including Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Akhenaten and Tutankhamun. Its early years were shaped by the memory of division and the need to secure Egypt’s borders.

The dynasty mattered because it turned recovery into expansion. The royal house developed a military and administrative system that projected Egyptian power into Nubia and the Levant, creating the political world usually associated with the New Kingdom.

In Pauline Gedge’s Lord of the Two Lands trilogy, it appears at the point where Ahmose’s victory changes a Theban family struggle into the foundation of a new royal age.
