Huy enters the household of the young Amenhotep III and his mother, the regent Mutemwia, as an adviser whose reputation for prophecy already gives him influence beyond his formal position. Royal dependence and public reverence rapidly draw him into taxation, trade, military affairs and the rivalries surrounding the Horus Throne.
Power does not release Huy from the divine obligation imposed after his childhood rebirth. He must decide when to tell a king an unwelcome truth and how far a servant can direct the country he serves. The conclusion follows his rise towards virtual rule and the extraordinary status that causes ordinary Egyptians to worship him before his death.
