Fall of Avaris and Expulsion of the Hyksos

Avaris was the Hyksos capital in the eastern Nile Delta. Its fall to forces associated with Ahmose I marked the decisive collapse of Hyksos authority in Egypt. The campaign continued beyond Avaris, but the capture of the Delta stronghold became central to the story of reunification.

The expulsion mattered because it allowed Ahmose I to found the Eighteenth Dynasty and begin the New Kingdom. Later Egyptian royal ideology remembered the victory as the restoration of order after foreign domination and internal division.

The Horus Road uses this final phase as the endpoint of the Lord of the Two Lands trilogy. It is a useful context for fiction about siege, pursuit, political inheritance and the transformation of Theban resistance into national kingship.
