Theban War against the Hyksos

The Theban war against the Hyksos developed from rivalry between the Theban kings of Upper Egypt and the Hyksos rulers in the Delta. Seqenenre Tao, Kamose and Ahmose I are associated with the escalating struggle that moved from Theban resistance to northern campaigning. The conflict ended with the removal of Hyksos power from Egypt.

The war mattered because it reunited Egypt and opened the way to the New Kingdom. It also reshaped Egyptian military practice and royal ideology, associating legitimate kingship with liberation, conquest and control of both Upper and Lower Egypt.
