Egypt is divided under Hyksos domination, with the Theban royal house struggling to preserve independence in the south. Ahhotep is drawn into the political and military crisis as the occupying power presses against Egyptian sovereignty and the royal family is forced to decide how open resistance can begin. The novel establishes the Queen of Freedom sequence by presenting occupation, dynastic danger and the first moves toward liberation.

Hyksos rule has divided Egypt politically, but the Theban court preserves institutions and traditions that can support eventual resistance. Ahhotep’s importance comes from turning dynastic survival into organised opposition rather than waiting for occupation to collapse on its own.

The novel emphasises the long preparation required before liberation becomes possible: alliances, military confidence and a shared sense of Egyptian identity have to be rebuilt. The struggle anticipates the campaigns that will expel the Hyksos and create the conditions for the New Kingdom.
