The Satyricon
Petronius’s Satyricon is a fragmentary Roman prose-and-verse fiction following Encolpius through a world of sex, fraud, dining, performance and social pretension. Its most famous section, Trimalchio’s dinner, satirises wealth, freedmen and elite imitation under the early empire.
