Herodotus was a Greek historian whose Histories narrate the Persian Wars and the wider world of the eastern Mediterranean.

Herodotus of Halicarnassus wrote the Histories, a large prose work explaining the causes and course of the Greco-Persian Wars. His narrative ranges across Egypt, Lydia, Persia, Scythia, Greece and many other societies, mixing inquiry, travel report, ethnography and political narrative.
