Arrian was a Greek historian and Roman official best known for his account of Alexander the Great.
Arrian served in the Roman imperial administration and wrote several historical and philosophical works. His Anabasis of Alexander is one of the principal surviving narratives of Alexander’s campaigns, drawing on earlier sources such as Ptolemy and Aristobulus.
He belongs in Classical for pages on Alexander, Macedon, Hellenistic warfare and the Greek intellectual world under Rome. His work is especially important where fiction depends on the campaigns and image of Alexander the Great.
