Xenophon was a Greek soldier, historian and philosopher whose works cover Socrates, Persia, Sparta and military command.

Xenophon is best known for the Anabasis, his account of the Ten Thousand Greek mercenaries retreating from Persia. He also wrote the Hellenica, Socratic works, the Cyropaedia and treatises on household management, horsemanship and command.
