Plato was an Athenian philosopher whose dialogues shaped later thought about justice, politics, knowledge and the soul.

Plato was a pupil of Socrates and the founder of the Academy in Athens. His surviving dialogues include the Republic, Symposium, Phaedo, Apology, Gorgias and Laws, combining philosophical argument with dramatic settings and remembered conversations.
