Thucydides was an Athenian historian whose History of the Peloponnesian War remains central to Greek political and military history.
Thucydides served as an Athenian general and wrote a severe analytical account of the war between Athens and Sparta. His work examines strategy, plague, civil strife, rhetoric, imperial overreach and the pressures that war places on democratic decision-making.
