Historical person
Herodotus
485 BCE–426 BCE
Herodotus was a Greek historian whose Histories investigate the causes and course of the Greco-Persian Wars. He combines inquiry into battles and politics with ethnography, geography, oral tradition and stories about rulers across the Mediterranean and Near East.
In non-fiction, Herodotus is discussed in John Man’s Amazons and Herodotus’s The Histories. In John Man’s Amazons, John Man follows the stories preserved by Herodotus and later writers while drawing on archaeology from Scythian and Sarmatian burial sites, where some women were interred with weapons, armour and riding equipment.
