2 fiction

Apollonius of Rhodes was a Hellenistic epic poet best known for the Argonautica.

Apollonius wrote the Argonautica, the major surviving Greek epic of the Hellenistic period. The poem retells the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts and gives particular psychological weight to Medea and the tensions between heroic adventure and emotional crisis.

He belongs in Classical for pages on Greek myth, Hellenistic literature, Jason, Medea and the Argonauts. His work is useful for linking older heroic tradition with the scholarly and literary culture of Alexandria.
