Medea

Medea was a princess and sorceress of Colchis who helps Jason obtain the Golden Fleece. Greek tragedy follows the consequences of her exile and Jason’s betrayal, presenting her as both victim and terrifying agent of revenge.

In Euripides’s Medea and Other Plays, Medea turns betrayal and exile into revenge; the other plays in the volume use myth to question heroism, gender, divine justice and the violence hidden inside households and cities. In Apollonius of Rhodes’s Jason and the Argonauts, this retelling or translation of the Argonaut story follows Jason, Medea and the crew of the Argo on the quest for the Golden Fleece.
