Driven into exile after Warwick restores Henry VI, Edward IV returns through Ravenspur with a small force and a determination to recover his crown. The Yorkist campaign leads through Barnet and Tewkesbury, destroying the principal Lancastrian challenge and restoring Edward’s dynasty. The narrative then carries the conflict into the next generation, through Richard III’s reign and Henry Tudor’s invasion, ending with the decisive battle at Bosworth Field.
Edward’s return succeeds because he presents his initial landing as a limited claim before gathering enough support to challenge Warwick openly. The rapid campaign toward Barnet and Tewkesbury shows how dynastic legitimacy still depends on armed followings, local allegiance and the ability to move faster than rival nobles can assemble. The novel closes the Wars of the Roses phase in which Lancastrian restoration remained a realistic alternative.
