Arthur is gone, the lords of Britain have abandoned their former unity and Saxon warbands move through the land. Galahad has grown up as a novice in a monastery hidden among the marshes of Avalon, separated from the violent inheritance of his father, Lancelot. His sheltered future ends when Iselle, a fierce Saxon-killer, and the ageing warrior Gawain draw him into the struggle beyond the monastery.
Their journey in search of the last druid and a sacred cauldron becomes an attempt to gather an army before Britain’s remaining resistance collapses. Galahad must exchange religious obedience for the responsibilities of his lineage and decide what, if anything, can be preserved from Arthur’s failed order. The novel treats Camelot less as a surviving court than as a contested memory capable of inspiring one final defence.
