Saxon power has spread across Britain after the fall of Arthur’s world. Saxon pursuers and the forces of Morgana and Lord Nabor close around the fugitives as Beran encounters figures drawn from the later Arthurian tradition, including Guivret, Palamedes, Tristan and Isolde. The novel approaches Arthur through the struggle over what remains after his defeat: an heir, a story and the possibility that loyalty can be rebuilt. Its quest structure combines warfare, legend and the uncertain survival of British resistance.
