Ludwig I of Bavaria

1786–1868

Ludwig I was king of Bavaria from 1825 to 1848 and a major patron of architecture, painting and classical scholarship. Ludwig I of Bavaria held the title of king and King of Bavaria.

His costly cultural projects and relationship with Lola Montez damaged his popularity, and he abdicated during the revolutionary crisis of 1848. Ludwig I of Bavaria was born in Strasbourg and died in Nice.
