FitzRoy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan

1788–1855

FitzRoy Somerset, later Lord Raglan, was a British army officer who lost an arm at Waterloo and served for decades as military secretary to the Duke of Wellington. He commanded British forces in the Crimean War, including at the Alma, Balaclava and Inkerman, but died during the siege of Sevastopol amid severe logistical and command failures.
