Tudor begins before the dynasty reached the throne, with Owen Tudor, Catherine of Valois and the family connections that eventually produced Henry VII. De Lisle follows Margaret Beaufort and her son through exile, the Wars of the Roses and the defeat of Richard III, then places the familiar reign of Henry VIII within a longer struggle to establish and protect a relatively new royal bloodline. Dynastic insecurity, marriage and succession remain central throughout the book.

The narrative continues through Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey, Mary I and Elizabeth I, giving particular attention to women and collateral relatives whose claims complicated the official Tudor succession. By spanning the family’s rise and the full Tudor monarchy, de Lisle treats the dynasty as a connected multigenerational story rather than a sequence of isolated reigns. The book ends with the unresolved succession that brought the Tudor line to a close in 1603.
