The Invasion Year

by Dewey Lambdin Book 17 in the Alan Lewrie Naval Adventures series.

First published 2011

2.5(5)

In late 1803, Alan Lewrie and HMS Reliant help French soldiers and civilians escape Saint-Domingue rather than fall to the victorious revolutionary armies. The rescue is followed by an exhausting convoy voyage to Britain, where Lewrie receives an unexpected knighthood from George III.

His reward is followed by secret work on experimental torpedoes and other ‘infernal engines’ intended to disrupt Napoleon’s planned invasion flotilla. Lewrie must test weapons as dangerous to their operators as to the enemy while deciding how far unconventional warfare can be reconciled with naval honour.
