Much Ado About Lewrie
First published 2019
In late 1810, HMS Vigilance is ordered home for decommissioning and refit, leaving Alan Lewrie on half-pay while his crew disperses. Ashore with his wife Jessica, he helps his son seek another ship and prepares for his daughter’s marriage, discovering that domestic quiet is more agreeable than he expected.
The calm ends when Lewrie uncovers a dognapping ring and stolen works of art, drawing him into London publicity and another tangle of accusation and reputation. Without a quarterdeck or official command, he must solve the affair through personal influence, persistence and the same disregard for convention that shaped his naval career.
