Book
The Black Pearl
In 1659, the Protectorate is failing and the Morlands hope that the restoration of the monarchy will revive their damaged fortunes. Ralph Morland begins rebuilding an estate impoverished by civil war, while his beautiful and ambitious cousin Annunciata travels to London and enters the seductive, unstable world of Charles II’s court.
Annunciata’s romances and political connections lead her toward the mystery of her own origins, while Ralph must decide how much of the past can truly be repaired. The Restoration promises reconciliation, pleasure and renewed opportunity, but old loyalties and concealed identities continue to shape the family. Public celebration therefore becomes the beginning of another uncertain settlement rather than a simple return to peace.
