Malta, 1565. Thomas Barrett is drawn back to the island as the Knights Hospitaller prepare for a major Ottoman assault. He carries knowledge that could affect both the siege and the security of Elizabeth I’s England, making him a target for agents operating within the defences. As Jean de Valette organises resistance against Suleiman’s forces, Barrett must survive bombardment, factional suspicion and the struggle for the forts controlling the harbour.
