A month after D-Day, an American officer is murdered in a Normandy manor being used as an advance headquarters. Billy Boyle, Piotr Kazimierz and Big Mike investigate close to the front, where the victim’s unexplained presence threatens to expose a highly secret military unit.
The nearby 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, known as the Ghost Army, uses false radio traffic, inflatable vehicles and recorded sound to mislead German forces about Allied strength. Billy must solve the killing without revealing the deception to enemy agents or neighbouring American units, because a single disclosure could destroy the unit’s usefulness and cost lives across the Normandy campaign.
