Individual stories follow an enslaved boy seeking revenge, prisoners resisting guards and collaborators, police confronting murder, and soldiers forced to decide what survival will cost. Recurring characters from the Billy Boyle novels appear alongside new protagonists, but the collection stands independently as a series of historical mysteries and wartime tales.
