Ireland, 1315. Richard Savage, an Irish Knight Templar condemned as a heretic and held in an English prison, is offered his freedom by Edward II. The price is a return to Ireland as a royal agent, charged with discovering who is preparing to support a Scottish invasion.
Savage enters a country divided among English lords, Gaelic rulers and supporters of Robert and Edward Bruce. His search for the conspirators becomes entangled with Templar secrets and a contested holy relic, while every alliance forces him to choose between duty to the king, loyalty to his homeland and the survival of those closest to him.
