Bruce Campaign in Ireland

Edward Bruce landed in Ulster in May 1315 with a Scottish army and support from several Irish rulers. His brother Robert the Bruce hoped the intervention would weaken English power and open another front in the Wars of Scottish Independence. Edward was proclaimed High King of Ireland, but his authority remained dependent on military success and unstable regional alliances.

The campaign moved across Ireland through raids, sieges and battles while famine made it increasingly destructive for soldiers and civilians. Anglo-Irish magnates and forces loyal to Edward II resisted the invasion, and the Bruces could not turn victories into a secure system of government. Edward Bruce was defeated and killed at Faughart in 1318.
