Ahhotep I

Ahhotep I was an Egyptian queen of the late Seventeenth Dynasty and early New Kingdom. She belonged to the royal family that fought the Hyksos and was later honoured with military-style awards, suggesting an important role in sustaining the dynasty during war.

In Pauline Gedge’s The Hippopotamus Marsh, Ahhotep, Kamose and the young Ahmose must confront the political and personal cost of a campaign their house may not survive. In Christian Jacq’s The Empire of Darkness, Ahhotep is drawn into the political and military crisis as the occupying power presses against Egyptian sovereignty and the royal family is forced to decide how open resistance can begin.
