It also includes Greenshaw’s Folly and two non-Marple stories with supernatural or uncanny elements.
The component stories were written across several decades, so the collection moves between interwar assumptions and post-war domestic change. Miss Marple often solves cases from conversation or a written account, showing how class expectations, service relationships and remembered local parallels can expose a crime even when she is physically distant from the scene.
