In 1864, Confederate marksman Lucas Cole is assigned to assassinate General Ulysses S. Grant, whose command of the Army of the Potomac threatens Richmond and the survival of the Confederacy. Cole’s skill allows him to approach the Union headquarters at City Point, where a single successful shot could alter the final year of the war.
A female Confederate spy helps prepare the operation, while a Union cavalry officer attempts to identify and stop the infiltrators. The novel uses a documented Confederate attack near Grant’s headquarters as the basis for an alternate-history thriller about whether one sniper can reverse the military balance between Grant and Robert E. Lee.
