SAS Ghost Patrol

In 1942, a small British special-forces unit operates across the North African desert using captured vehicles, German equipment and enemy uniforms. Its members conduct deep raids against Axis airfields and bases, including operations associated with Tobruk and Barce, while attempting to appear to be part of the forces hunting them.

Lewis reconstructs the patrol’s long mission from personal testimony and archival evidence. Disguise provides access but also removes the protections normally afforded to uniformed soldiers if captured. The account shows how the Long Range Desert Group and early SAS combined navigation, deception and endurance against forces commanded by Erwin Rommel.
