Rani Lakshmibai was the queen of Jhansi and one of the best-known leaders of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Rani Lakshmibai held the title of Raja and Queen of Jhansi.

After the East India Company annexed Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse, she organised resistance, fought at Jhansi and Gwalior and was killed in battle in 1858. Rani Lakshmibai was born in Varanasi and died in Gwalior.
