Juba II was a Numidian prince raised in Rome who became a client king of Mauretania under Augustus. Married to Cleopatra Selene II, he promoted cities, scholarship and Mediterranean trade while ruling a kingdom that blended Roman, North African, Greek and Egyptian traditions.
