George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury, was an English nobleman best known as one of the custodians of Mary, Queen of Scots. His long responsibility for Mary placed him at the centre of Elizabethan security politics and strained his household and marriage.

In Philippa Gregory’s The Other Queen, after fleeing Scotland in 1568, Mary Stuart is placed in the custody of George Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, and his wife Bess of Hardwick.
