Warrior of Mercia
Mercia, AD 830. Icel has earned a place in Ealdorman Ælfstan's warrior band and serves King Wiglaf after Mercia's recovery from West Saxon domination. The return of London to Mercian control has not ended the kingdom's dangers, because Viking raiders are beginning to exploit the rivers and coasts of eastern England.
Icel is sent towards East Anglia, a kingdom whose recent break with Mercia makes cooperation difficult even when both face the same threat. To protect Mercia's eastern frontier he must negotiate old hostility, local ambition and the arrival of an enemy whose methods of war do not respect the political boundaries dividing the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
