Son of Mercia
Mercia, AD 825. King Beornwulf is dead after years of warfare with Wessex, and Wiglaf claims a throne weakened by internal rivalry and military defeat. King Ecgberht of Wessex sees an opportunity to reduce Mercia permanently and presses his advantage.
Wiglaf must unite nobles whose loyalties are uncertain while defending territory already exposed to attack. The struggle for Tamworth and the surrounding lands places Mercian survival in the hands of warriors who must decide whether the kingdom can recover from defeat before Wessex turns temporary dominance into permanent rule.
