Betrayal of Mercia
Londonia, 835. The conspiracy against the children of Ealdorman Coenwulf has been exposed, but the arrest of those involved does not end the danger. King Wiglaf must oversee the reckoning while Queen Cynethryth herself is implicated, placing family loyalty and royal authority in direct conflict.

Icel and his companions must protect a kingdom threatened as much by internal betrayal as by external ambition. The novel shifts the immediate danger away from Viking raiders and towards the struggle between Mercia and an increasingly powerful Wessex, where a damaged ruling household offers enemies an opportunity to intervene.
