The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

After the defeat of 1940, Winston Churchill supports the creation of small, deniable units able to attack Axis targets through sabotage, deception and raids conducted outside conventional military practice. The men recruited for this work use enemy uniforms, disguised vessels and improvised weapons during operations that include the seizure of ships at Fernando Po.

Lewis follows the unit from its experimental beginnings to missions across occupied territory and the death of key members near the war’s end. The work was first published as Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII before being reissued as The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
