Mansfield Park

Fanny Price is sent from her poor Portsmouth home to be raised by wealthy relatives at Mansfield Park. Treated as a dependent rather than an equal, she grows up quietly observant and attached to her cousin Edmund, whose intention to enter the church distinguishes him from the more worldly members of the Bertram family.
The arrival of Henry and Mary Crawford unsettles the household through flirtation, amateur theatricals and competing ideas of marriage and duty. Henry’s pursuit of Fanny continues after she refuses him, placing her under intense family pressure. A later scandal within the Bertram family tests whether Fanny’s moral judgement can survive social authority, economic dependence and emotional isolation.
