Hunting the Nazi Bomb

Allied leaders fear that German scientists may build an atomic weapon using heavy water produced at the Vemork plant in occupied Norway. British intelligence and the Special Operations Executive support a sequence of missions, including Grouse, Freshman and Gunnerside, intended to disrupt the plant, its personnel and the movement of nuclear materials.

Lewis combines the Norwegian sabotage campaign with the intelligence war surrounding scientists, industrial facilities and intercepted communications. The book was previously published as Hunting Hitler’s Nukes and shows how survival in the mountains, scientific assessment and clandestine operations were joined in the effort to prevent Nazi Germany acquiring a bomb.
