Eagle and the Flame

Britannia, AD 367. Tribune Sixtus Victorinus is scouting north of Hadrian’s Wall when he finds smoke, abandoned posts and a province collapsing into disorder. Raiders have broken through the frontier, soldiers are missing and the word Valentia spreads without clear explanation.

Victorinus is a damaged officer whose family is among those endangered by the attack. To recover them, he must rebuild his authority and uncover the treachery behind the chaos while Britain faces the crisis later remembered as the Great Conspiracy.
