An Infamous Army

In Brussels during the summer of 1815, Lady Barbara Childe attracts the attention of Colonel Charles Audley, an aide-de-camp on the Duke of Wellington’s staff. The second half follows the Waterloo campaign from the alarm before Quatre Bras through the battle itself and its aftermath. Personal uncertainty is overtaken by mobilisation, casualties and command decisions, linking the romance directly to the experience of Wellington’s army.
