A Queen’s Traitor
Richard Fitzwarren has been branded a traitor after resisting a scheme to remove Princess Elizabeth from the succession. Protestant reformers now plan to take her abroad, believing that exile will protect their future figurehead from Mary I’s government. Elizabeth refuses to abandon England, leaving Richard to stop men who claim to act in her interest while exposing her to greater suspicion.
At the same time, Jack Fitzwarren believes Richard may be dead and follows a reckless course in his attempt to secure a place within the family that rejected him. The brothers’ eventual reunion forces them to decide whether blood loyalty can survive political treason. The novel explores the danger surrounding Elizabeth during Mary’s reign, when plans to protect, marry or exploit her could all be interpreted as rebellion.
